NextGen Newsletter - June 2021
NextGen is a 20+ year old community supporting each new generation of venture capital talent.
Hey everyone, happy June! Lots happening this month as we jump into the start of summer (ps this California boy is 100% melting on the East Coast).
Our first piece of exciting news - we’re hosting a NextGen VC Happy Hour in NYC, our first IRL event in more than a year! Through support from our generous sponsors at JLL, we’ve booked out a private space at the Standard Biergarten in Chelsea from 5-8 PM ET on Tuesday, June 22 (one week away), and drinks and apps are on us until we spend an obnoxious amount from our budget. We hope to reunite with all of you folks who are in NYC! Register for our NextGen NYC Happy Hour here to get on the guestlist & get instructions on the private entrance, see below for more details.
In other news, we’re running a survey on how investors are returning to work! If you have 2 minutes, we’d love to get your feedback. Finish the survey and you’ll get data back on where people are working remotely, where people are moving to, whether people have permanently changed work setup habits, and if / when people are returning to the physical office. Please fill out our Return to Work Survey here!
Last but certainly not least, we’d love to hear from y’all if you have awesome people in venture you’d like to give kudos to. Please fill out our Member Spotlight here!
Thanks,
Shawn and the NextGen Board

Events You Should Join 🎙
Nextgen VC NYC Happy Hour 5-8 PM @ Standard Biergarten, Tuesday 6/22
We’re hosting our FIRST IRL happy hour in more than a year! For investors based in NYC (folks who are currently working at a venture capital firm or actively angel investing), we have a private space at the Standard Biergarten in Chelsea next Tuesday night. Drinks and snacks are totally covered and on us! Kudos goes to Anant Akash from Soma Capital for jumpstarting this process and Leeor Mushin from Floodgate for intro-ing us to the folks at The Standard. If you have any questions, feel free to email shawn@floodgate.com. Register here to get on the guestlist & receive instructions on the private entrance!
This event is made possible by JLL! Deb van der Heyden (NYC) and Hilary Barte (Silicon Valley) of JLL partner with founders on their workplace and real estate strategy – whether that be defining their new workplace, leasing or subleasing an HQ location or establishing satellite offices. Their clients include Pinterest, Teladoc, Cloudflare, Lyra Health, Joby Aviation, and True Talent among others. Their unique bi-coastal coverage gives entrepreneurs insight into two of the most impactful real estate markets in the world, ultimately allowing their clients to make the most informed, data-backed real estate decisions. This insight has been especially critical as companies define their “future of the workplace” and how to incorporate remote working into their physical workplace. Come by to meet them!NextGen Request for Events
